Dear Senator Lindsey Graham,

I have followed your politics for as long as I can remember, and it saddens me that the final stretch of your public service and your legacy will be one of total submission to the wills of President Trump. You were the late Senator John McCain’s ally and best friend, and if he were alive today, I could not imagine his disappointment with your behavior as of lately.

Have you completely checked out? Does Trump have something incriminating against you? How did you go from calling him a con man to defending him regardless of how much he has disgraced the office of the presidency? Have you given up on your responsibility to protect the US constitution and hold the White House accountable? The role of congress is not to appease the President no matter the cost. One of the founding fathers of this great nation, James Madison, wrote in Federalist Papers 10 and 51:

“If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself.” — James Madison

The men in power in the executive branch are not angels but instead are opportunists who only care to advance their personal agendas. It’s the government of the people for the people. While I understand that in every administration there is a partisan bias, this administration have eroded any and all norms of the office. With your help and other like you, notably Senator Ted Cruz, you are allowing the current occupant of the white house to run amuck and turn the Office of the Presidency into his own personal reality show. A reality show that is embarrassing the US domestically and on the international stage. While you may believe that the occupant of the white house is projecting American strength and greatness, I assure you the world is laughing at us.

Whatever your reasons are for your cowardice in dealing with this administration, know this, history will judge you for this for all of time. But don’t take it from me or the millions of US citizens about how this administration is a disgrace to the office of the presidency. Read your own words about the importance of protecting the sanctity of the Office of the Presidency.

Sincerely,
A Very Concerned Citizen
